King Krule – August 2013
The first time i played this album it was on “random”, and the first song that came along was Foreign 2. This song in specific starts with a smooth, clear and catchy beat.
Already melting away with the beat, I wasn’t ready for the voice: Archy Marshall’s clear, deep and intense vocals, along with his strong Londoner accent build up such a good atmosphere, that not using it to its full extent would be a shame. Thankfully, he does so, with a sharp and firm usage of instruments to go with it, never too much, never too little.
I can’t help but feel this album emphasizes simple beats and Archy’s soulful voice, building greatly upon them, throwing in piano, saxophone, and the front man’s crystal clear guitar (with a pinch of reverb, sometimes a handful).
It’s mesmerizing how he can go from intense Friday all the way down to lazy Sunday in a matter of seconds.
